GT4

Production-based race cars with ABS, modest downforce and road-car weight. The usual next step after the MX-5 and the class most iRacing road racers spend their first seasons in.

Braking in GT4

GT4 cars are heavy for their grip and carry only a little downforce, so the pedal you need barely changes through a straight-line stop. Most of the work is one firm hit at the brake point and a smooth release as you turn in.

ABS catches mistakes, which tempts drivers to stand on the pedal. Riding the ABS stops the car later than braking just under it, and it pushes the front wide on turn-in.

Tips

  • Hit full pressure in the first tenth of a second; a slow squeeze wastes metres.
  • Start releasing as you start steering, not before.
  • If the ABS light flickers early in the zone, you are over the limit before the corner has even started.
